Mr. HUDSONAt 20th November, 1933, there were 8,151 unemployed men, 1,534 women and 196 juveniles resident in the Metropolitan Borough of Stepney on the registers of Employment Exchanges. It is estimated that these figures include about 8,110 men and 1,340 women who were wholly unemployed and 40 men and 200 women who were temporarily stopped.
The number of unemployed seamen, aged 18 and over, on the registers of Employment Exchanges in Great Britain was 39,800 at 23rd October, 1933, 42,343 at 24th October, 1932, and 41,272 at 26th October, 1931. Separate statistics in respect of seamen of British nationality are not available.
