HC Deb 21 December 1933 vol 284 c1495W
Mr. BANFIELD

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education the number of surviving pre-War teacher pensioners and the total amount payable at present in respect of their pensions?

Mr. RAMSBOTHAM

The number of teacher pensioners in receipt of pensions awarded under what are usually called pre-War conditions, that is, under the provisions regulating the superannuation of teachers which were in force before the date (1st April, 1919), on which the School Teachers (Superannuation) Act, 1918, came into operation—who were surviving on the 30th November, 1933, was 2,159. The figure of the total amount payable on that date in respect of these pensions is not readily available; but during the year ended 31st March, 1933, the amount expended under this head, including increases under the Pension's (Increase) Acts, 1920 and 1924, was £130,056 in respect of 2,586 pensioners, of whom 2,305 were surviving on 31st March, 1933.
