HC Deb 21 December 1933 vol 284 cc1475-6W
Mr. D. G. SOMERVILLE

asked the Minister of Health if he can state in detail how the £300,000 extra granted to the distressed areas will be distributed; and which will be the areas to benefit?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

I have been asked to reply. The areas which will benefit from the concession announced on 11th December are the areas which receive a grant in the current year from the Vote for special grants to local authorities in distressed areas. Each such area will benefit in each year (and proportionately in any part of a year) of the period from the date on which the provisions of the Bill come into operation until 31st March, 1937, by three-fifths of the amount of its grant. A list of the benefiting authorities in England and Wales, and the approximate amount of the grant to be received by each, was given in a reply by the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Health on 7th November to a question by the Hon. Member for North Newcastle-or-Tyne (Sir N. Grattan-Doyle). If similar information is desired as regards Scotland, an inquiry should be addressed to the Secretary of State.
