HC Deb 21 December 1933 vol 284 c1482W
Mr. McGOVERN

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the total amount of money which has been refunded to Glasgow firms for the last year under the Derating Act, 1929, and the names of the firms and total amounts returned in each case?

Sir G. COLLINS

I assume that the hon. Member refers to the extent to which the ratepayers were relieved of rates in respect of certain lands and heritages under the derating provisions of the Local Government (Scotland) Act, 1929. I have no information either as to the total amount of such relief for last year or as to the amount of relief in any individual case. On the basis of the standard year (1928–9), however, the total rate reduction due to derating in Glasgow was approximately £700,000.
