Mr. O. G. SOMERVILLEasked the Minister of Health whether, in view of the evidence that the urgent need for building additional family houses has passed, and that the need of the moment is for more cheap accommodation consisting of one or two rooms for individual or married and childless workers, he will consider the advisability of introducing legislation at an early date with a view to giving special encouragement to the provision of such accommodation in communal buildings?
Sir H. YOUNGLocal authorities have already extensive powers for the provision of such housing accommodation as will best meet the needs of their several districts, and further legislation is not necessary to enable them to take the action suggested by my hon. Friend in the areas in which they think it desirable to do so.
