Mr. RHYS DAVIES

asked the Minister of Health the infantile mortality rates for London, New York, Chicago, Paris, Berlin, Vienna and Moscow for the last year for which statistics are available?

Sir H. YOUNG

The latest year for which comparative statistics are available for all these cities is 1929. The infantile mortality rates (number of deaths under one year per 1,000 live births) in that year were as follow:

London 71
New York 59
Chicago 60
Paris 101
Berlin 86
Vienna 79
Moscow 129

These figures are given in the League of Nations publication, "Statistics of Notifiable Diseases, 1929."
