Viscountess ASTORasked the Minister of Agriculture the amount of wheat which has been handled month by month by the grain markets since the inception of the 1932 Wheat Act?
§ Major ELLIOTI regret that I have not sufficient information to answer fully the question of my Noble Friend. The returns collected by my Department under the Corn Returns Act, 1882, relate only to a number of scheduled markets and do not represent total sales. I am, however, informed by the Wheat Commission that the quantities of homegrown millable wheat, of this year's harvest, which have been sold by registered growers, and in respect of which deficiency payments under the Wheat Act, 1932, have been claimed during the period ending on 11th November, are as follow:
1294W
Period of four weeks ending on Quantity. cwt. September 17th 277,371 October 14th 1,266,808 November 11th 2,671,896 Total up to 11th November 4,216,075
