asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs what was the cost of maintaining the activities of the Empire Marketing Board for the year 1931?

Mr. THOMAS

Until the Appropriation Account for 1931 is closed, the cost of maintaining the activities of the Empire Marketing Board for that year cannot be stated with complete accuracy. It is calculated, however, that the total expenditure will be about £455,000. This figure excludes a sum of £59,000 provided

  1. (a) Orders for compulsory winding-up of companies;
  2. (b) Resolutions for the voluntary winding-up of companies without declaration of solvency;
  3. (c) Receiving orders in bankruptcy;
  4. (d) Deeds of arrangement and deeds of composition:
