HC Deb 02 March 1932 vol 262 cc1110-1W
Mr. LEWIS

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that £175,000 and 1,500 cantos gold have been provided by the Brazilian Government for the benefit of British investors in Brazilian Government securities which are now in default for the third time, and that thus far British investors have received no portion of that money; and will he inquire by whom this money is being retained and for what purposes?

Mr. EDEN

I have been unable to obtain confirmation that these sums have been allocated as stated, and, in the absence of specific information, no useful purpose would be served by an inquiry such as is suggested. If, however, my hon. Friend can furnish particulars in substantiation of the statement, I shall be glad to consider the matter further.
