§ Mr. RHYS DAVIESasked the Home Secretary the reason for the increase from 5s. to 10s. in the cost of each copy of police reports in cases of road accidents; and whether he will consider requesting police authorities to supply copies at the old rate of 5s. to persons insured under the National Health Insurance scheme?
§ Sir H. SAMUELIn approving the increase of the fee to 10s. (2s. 6d. in cases where certain limited particulars are furnished), the consideration I had chiefly in mind was the amount of clerical and other work involved in the supply of the information. I regret I am unable to adopt the suggestion in the latter part of the question, but chief officers of police will still have a discretion to waive or reduce the amount of the fee in all suitable cases, particularly in cases where the full charge would involve hardship.
