asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the prices paid by the Department of Agriculture for Scotland for sheep stock taken over at valuation by them, giving the separate figures for each class of sheep stock on farms acquired by the Department; the corresponding prices obtained by the Department for the same classes of sheep stock taken over by tenants or sold in the open market within a period of two years after the date when they were taken over by the Department; the loss incurred on each transaction; and the total loss incurred?

Sheep stocks were taken over by the Forestry Commission at acclimatisation value as fixed by arbitration on 11 farms in Scotland. It would be undesirable to state the figures in respect of each of the farms, but I hope the following figures will give the hon. Member the information he requires:

The total loss on the six farms where the stock has been cleared amounts to £7,983. The loss on the other five cannot be stated until the stocks are cleared.
