HL Deb 12 July 1932 vol 85 c788WA
EARL BUXTON

asked His Majesty's Government whether, when the report has been received upon the recent raid into the Sudan, it is proposed to publish this and other documents upon slavery in time for consideration by the next Assembly of the League of Nations?

VISCOUNT HAILSHAM

His Majesty's Government have not yet received the detailed report on the meeting between the representatives of the Abyssinian and Sudan Governments which took place at Gambeila on June 6. The summary which they have received by telegraph states, however, that the agreement which was made included an undertaking by the Abyssinian representatives that they accepted responsibility for paying compensation for the persons killed in the raid and for effecting the return of all persons and stock captured. It was also arranged that an Abyssinian emissary should be sent at once to attempt to recover the captives and stock, and the Sudan Government are co-operating by providing a steamer along the Sudan side of the frontier at the nearest accessible point to the area affected. His Majesty's Government hope that the text of the agreement will be received in time to enable action to be taken in the sense suggested by the noble Earl.

House adjourned at twenty minutes past six o'clock.
