HC Deb 11 July 1932 vol 268 c905W
Mr. G. HALL

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the number of distilleries producing spirituous liquors in Palestine; the amount of their production; and whether wine is allowed to be manufactured in the monasteries and, if so, whether there is any record of the quantity produced?

Sir R. HAMILTON

The number of distilleries holding licences in 1931 was 22. The total produced from raw material on first distillation was 396,620 litres. Special licences free of licence duty are granted to religious institutions to manufacture wine far the sole consumption of the members of such institutions, but I have no record of the quantity thus produced.
