GOWERasked the First Lord of the, Armiralty whether he will consider issuing a regulation that ex-chief petty officers in His Majesty's Navy who have obtained passing certificates for promotion and recommendations as well, but who have not obtained such promotion on account of reduction of personnel, shall be given on retirement such promoted rank but without any increase in pension?
Lord STANLEYCareful consideration has been given to the proposal of the hon. Member, but in view of the general policy of the Admiralty to abolish promotion on retirement, I regret that the proposal cannot be accepted.
