HC Deb 09 February 1932 vol 261 cc681-2W
Mr. LAWSON

asked the Minister of Labour the total number of unemployed for each of the last four weeks, respectively?

Mr. HUDSON

These statistics are now collected only for one date in each month, instead of weekly as hitherto. On 25th January the total number of unemployed persons on the registers of Employment Exchanges in Great Britain was 2,728,411.

Mr. LAWSON

asked the Minister of Labour the total number employed for each week in November, December, and January, respectively?

Mr. HUDSON

As indicated in the reply I gave to a similar question by the hon. Member on 7th December, 1931, estimates of the numbers of insured persons in employment can only be made in respect of one date in each month. It is estimated that the number of insured persons in employment in Great Britain was 9,510,500 at 23rd November, 1931; 9,592,600 at 21st December, 1931: and 9,365,700 at 25th January, 1932.
