HC Deb 09 February 1932 vol 261 c680W
Mr. WARDLAW-MILNE

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what arrangements are being made to repay British subjects for the loss which they have sustained in connection with the recent riots in Cyprus; and whether the amounts will be recovered from those who were concerned in creating the trouble?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

Claims submitted by individuals in respect of losses sustained in the riots are, subject to scrutiny by local bodies appointed for that purpose, being paid from Government funds. These payments are being made from the general revenue of the colony. Reparation for damage to public property is being provided for by a levy on the Orthodox-Christian inhabitants of the towns and villages responsible for the disturbances.
