§ Mr. LEONARDasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is aware that the Westminster City Council have recently obtained from the Savings Bank of Glasgow a loan of £120,000; and whether, in view of the terms offered to the city of Westminster, he will take steps to ensure in the future that Scottish local authorities may have their attention drawn to the advisability of using Scottish savings for Scottish purposes?
§ Sir G. COLLINSI am aware from statements which have appeared in the Press that an offer was made of a loan as described in the first part of the question. With regard to the second part, I have no reason to doubt that Scottish local authorities are fully alive to the possibility of obtaining loans from Scottish savings banks, and no action appears to be called for on my part.
