HC Deb 02 December 1932 vol 272 c1150W
Duchess of ATHOLL

asked the Minister of Labour the latest figure for unemployment in the builders' woodwork industry, the glue industry, and the soap and confectionery industries?

Sir H. BETTERTON

The industries specified are not separately distinguished in the statistics of employment and unemployment derived from the working of the Unemployment Insurance Acts. The following table gives, however, for the industry groups in which they are included, the numbers of insured persons recorded as unemployed in Great Britain at 24th October, 1932.

Industry. Number.
Sawmilling and machined woodwork 11,841
Manufacture of oil, glue, soap, polish, ink, matches, etc. 9,991
Manufacture of cocoa, chocolate and sugar confectionery 8,546
