HC Deb 15 April 1932 vol 264 cc1130-2W
Mr. BARCLAY-HARVEY

asked the Minister of Health what was the total cost of health and housing schemes of the Government and local authorities in England and Wales in the financial years 1912–13 and 1930–31 respectively, excluding any sums paid in relief of unemployment.

Sir H. YOUNG

It is assumed that the health schemes of local authorities referred to by my hon. Friend are those which prior to 1st April, 1930, were assisted by direct Government grants. These grants (except the port sanitary grant) were discontinued by the Local Government Act, 1929, and were merged in the new Exchequer grants which are paid towards local government expenses generally, and cannot be apportioned to individual services. I will send my hon. Friend a statement relating to 1912–13
