§ Mr. FREEMANasked the President of the Board of Education the number of teachers in Wales, and in the counties of Brecon and Radnor, separately, who will be affected by the proposed cuts in salaries; what is the total amount of their annual salaries at existing scales; and the amount that will be paid under the new conditions?
§ Sir D. MACLEANI regret that it is not possible to answer this question in the precise form in which it is put, but it will be seen from Circular 1413, of which I am sending the hon. Member a copy, that, as regards the reduction of 10 per cent. in teachers' salaries, the Board are primarily concerned with the total expenditure under this head which is to be taken into account for purposes of their grant, and the following table therefore gives in substance the required information:

In addition, the following numbers of teachers were employed on 31st March, 1930, in secondary schools, training 204W colleges, and special schools, not maintained by local education authorities; but it would not be practicable, without a special scrutiny of all the school accounts concerned, to state the expenditure incurred on their salaries:
