HC Deb 17 September 1931 vol 256 cc1034-5W
Earl of DALKEITH

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office what economies in expenditure on the Territorial Army are being made in the present financial emergency?

Mr. COOPER

It is proposed to suspend all annual training in camp by the Territorial Army and the Supplementary Reserve in 1932. Owing to the suspension of camps there will be a considerable saving in the wear and tear of clothing and accoutrements, and the grant for their maintenance which is paid to Territorial Army Associations will be reduced accordingly. A limitation will be placed on recruiting for the Territorial Army so that the strength during the financial year 1932 will not exceed that for which provision was made in the Estimates of 1931.
