HC Deb 17 September 1931 vol 256 c1050W
Mr. WELLOCK

asked the hon. and gallant Member for Rye, as representing the Forestry Commissioners, the number of acres it is proposed to afforest during the current year; and whether the modified programme will involve a reduction in the number of afforestation workers of all kinds and, if so, how many?

Sir G. COURTHOPE

The number of acres it is proposed to afforest next season is not yet definitely fixed, but it will not be less than 20,000. During the last 12 months the average number of State afforestation workers was 3,400. Under the modified programme the number is not expected to fall appreciably below 3,000.
