§ Mr. RAMSBOTHAMasked the Minister of Health if he has considered the representations made by local authorities with regard to renewing the provisions of the Election and Registration Act, 1915, and their application to the municipal elections due to take place on 2nd November, 1931, with the object of effecting an economy during the emergency; and whether he will take steps to put this policy into effect?
Mr. STANLEYMy right hon. Friend the Home Secretary has seen only one tentative resolution passed by the Lancashire Non-County Boroughs Association suggesting that the Association of Municipal Corporations and the Non-County Boroughs Association should consider the advisability of making representations to the Government in favour of the postponement of the municipal elections on 2nd November. Legislation would be required for the purpose, and my right hon. Friend does not think this is practicable, even if it were desirable.
