HC Deb 04 May 1931 vol 252 cc39-40W
Captain EDEN

asked the Postmaster-General what are the rates of pay paid by the Post Office for part-time work; whether such payments are general in all parts of the country; and what is the lowest rate so paid?

Mr. ATTLEE

The rates of pay for part-time employés of the Post Office range from 1s. 7d. to 5½d. an hour. The rates vary according to the work, the locality in which it is performed, and the sex, age, or length of service of the particular employé. The rate of 5½d. an hour is payable to a part-time woman telephonist 16 years of age in a small Provincial town. The rates are based on an award by the Industrial Court dated July, 1927.
