HC Deb 12 March 1931 vol 249 cc1409-10W
Mr. WINTERTON

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he has anything further to report in connection with the use of automatic gas detectors in coal mines; whether any further tests have been made; whether any have proved satisfactory; and, if so, what steps he proposes to take to introduce automatic gas detectors in coal mines at the earliest possible moment?

Mr. SHINWELL

Work on this problem is being actively continued, but I am not yet in a position to add anything more to the statement which I made in reply to a question by my hon. Friend on 5th February.
