HC Deb 12 March 1931 vol 249 c1403W
Mr. FREEMAN

asked the Minister of Labour whether, in view of the large number of circus artists at present unemployed in this country, she will consider the repatriation of all wild animal trainers of foreign nationality and refuse the entry into this country of any person to pursue that occupation?

Mr. CLYNES

If the hon. Member has any evidence in support of the statement that a large number of circus artists are at present unemployed in this country owing to the presence of foreign artists, and will be so good as to let me have it, I will look into the matter. As regards the entry of foreigners, the law provides that an alien desiring to come to this country for the purpose of employment cannot be given leave to land unless he is in possession of a permit issued for the purpose by the Minister of Labour to the prospective employer.
