HC Deb 12 March 1931 vol 249 c1396W
Mr. FREEMAN

asked the Minister of Health how many persons were diagnosed as having died from cancer during 1930; whether he has record of how many of these persons were habitual consumers of flesh foods, beer or spirits, or non-flesh diet; and whether, if such details are not available, he will instruct all registrars of deaths to furnish them in future?

Mr. GREENWOOD

The number of deaths registered during 1930 in England and Wales and classified to cancer was 57,870. This figure is provisional. No information is available with regard to the matters referred to in the second part of the question. As regards the third part, registrars of births and deaths are not entitled to obtain any information with respect to a death other than that relating to the particulars required by law to be registered, and it would not therefore be possible to adopt my hon. Friend's suggestion.
