HC Deb 04 March 1931 vol 249 cc409-10W
Mr. GROVES

asked the Minister of Health what was the date of the report made by one of his inspectors on the outbreak of paratyphoid fever at Epping; on what date did the farm hand who is said to have been a carrier of para- typhoid germs cease handling the milk on this farm; how many cases of paratyphoid fever have been notified in the district since the report in question was made; and what was the latest date on which there were notifications of this disease at Epping and in the district generally?

Mr. GREENWOOD

A medical officer of my Department visited the district on 10th February and made a brief report on that day. The farm hand who was suspected of being a carrier ceased handling the milk on 24th January and was removed to hospital on 11th February. 233 cases of paratyphoid were notified in the Epping Urban District and neighbouring districts between 10th and 28th February, some of these being cases of delayed notification. I understand that a few further cases were notified as late as 2nd March.
