§ Mr. SHAWI cannot give figures for the year 1913–14, since at that time no cost accounts were kept of military hospitals. In 1920–21 the Estimates show (page 60) that the average cost per diem for each occupied bed was 9s. 7.45d. For 1930, figures are given on page 72 of Army Estimates showing the gross 239W cost of five of the largest military hospitals at home and the number of equipped beds maintained at each hospital. For other hospitals at home cost accounts are no longer kept.
