HC Deb 04 June 1931 vol 253 c364W
Mr. FREEMAN

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that the Breconshire County Council are having to pay over £1,000 per annum, equal to more than a 1d. rate, for the necessary additional maintenance of unemployable blind persons, in view of the fact that the 10s. allowed by the State grant is insufficient; and what action he intends to take in the matter to relieve them of this cost?

Mr. GREENWOOD

I am not aware of the precise rate of expenditure at present being incurred by the Breconshire County Council on this service, but as regards the general question of State financial assistance towards the expenditure of local authorities under the Blind Persons Act, I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer given on 24th March to my hon. Friend the Member for Birkenhead West (Mr. Egan) of which I am sending him a copy.
