§ Mr. MANDERasked the Home Secretary by whom application has been made for the use by cadets this summer of rifles; the numbers affected; the ages of the boys; and whether similar applications and, if so, to what extent have been made in the previous three years.
§ Mr. CLYNESNo application has been made to me with special reference to the use of rifles by members of cadet corps during this summer. Applications have 2659W been received for the approval of such corps in order that they may enjoy the facilities authorised by Parliament in Section 1 (8) (e) of the Firearms Act, 1920; and such applications are usually made by one of the organisations to which they are affiliated. I cannot, in the time available, give the number of these applications; and I have no information as to the numbers and ages of the individual members of such corps.
