HC Deb 17 July 1931 vol 255 c968W
Major GLYN

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that the warning signal on Barr's Point, North-East Irish coast, being a bell that strikes once every 10 seconds, is of very, poor volume; and, since the safe entry of Lame harbour is dependent upon this bearing being accurately fixed, whether he will draw the attention of the appropriate authority to the inadequacy of this signal and urge that ships should have the benefit of a more modern means of signalling?

Mr. W. R. SMITH

I am informed by the Commissioners of Irish Lights that they are replacing the existing fog bell by an acetylene fog gun, which they hope will be in operation by September next.
