§ Mr. FOOTasked the Home Secretary if he intends to issue regulations under Section 2 of the Costs in Criminal Cases Act, 1908; and in how many cases since that Act was passed costs have been paid under the Act to cover the expenses of prosecution and defence, respectively?
§ Mr. CLYNESI do not propose making any further regulations under the Costs in Criminal Cases Act, 1908. As regards the second part of the question, orders as to the costs of the prosecution and as to allowances to witnesses are continually being made under the Act and orders as to the costs of poor prisoners' defence are made in cases where free legal aid is granted. The desired figures, however, are not available.
