§ Mr. P. SNOWDENHis Majesty's Government are unable to contemplate legislation to amend the Pensions (Increase) Acts. Steps have been taken, however, to simplify the existing inquiry into means in all cases in which an increase of pension has been received for at least three years and is payable wholly and finally from the British Exchequer. I am in communication with the various Departments concerned as to whether a similar arrangement can be made in the remaining cases.
§ Mr. HORE-BELISHAasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether instructions have been issued to allow to pensioners the benefit of sums of money expended on the repair to their houses and to award the percentage increases on the actual net income derived from their property in all cases where pensions are subject to an income limit?
§ Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCEProvision is already made in the Treasury Regulations dated 1st October, 1924, under Section 4 of the Pensions (Increase) Act, 1920, for a deduction from the gross value of house property in respect of the cost of repairs. If the hon. Member can supply me with particulars of any cases in which it is considered that this allowance has not been made, I will have the matter inquired into.
