Mr. LEWIS

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he will consider the question of publishing booklets similar to the General Guide to a commission in His Majesty's land forces and Regulations respecting admission to the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, so as to give the list of schools the headmasters of which are permitted to recommend candidates for nomination, with a view to enlarging the field of entry and giving a greater selection for naval cadetships?

Mr. AMMON

Nomination plays no part in the selection of candidates for Naval Cadetships, either by the Dartmouth or Special Entry systems, and candidates from any schools can compete for commissions in the Royal Navy and Royal Marines. Entry pamphlets, giving particulars corresponding to the War Office booklet, can be obtained on application to the Secretary of the Admiralty, and fuller information is contained in the Appendix to the Navy List.
