§ Dr. ADDISONThe total number of men employed in the beet-sugar factories in Great Britain during the past beet-sugar manufacturing campaign (from October to January, inclusive) was 9,900, the average length of employment being 16 weeks. Of these men, 2,200 are permanently employed. During the summer of 1930, about 1,800 men, in addition to the 2,200 permanently employed, were engaged in the factories for an average period of 15 weeks on the refining of imported raw sugar.
