HC Deb 24 February 1931 vol 248 cc1971-2W
Major NATHAN

asked the Postmaster-General the number of telephones and call boxes in each of the metropolitan boroughs; and the number of inhabitants to each instrument in the several boroughs?

Mr. VIANT

The particulars for exchanges in the administrative County of London are:

  • Number of subscribers' telephones, 504,635.
  • Number of public call offices, 3,995.
  • Number of inhabitants per instrument, 8.8.

The preparation of separate information in respect of each of the metropolitan boroughs would involve a considerable amount of labour, as the figures are not readily available. If the hon. and gallant Member specially desires the figures for any particular borough, I will obtain them.
