asked the Secretary for Mines the amount paid in royalties and wayleaves by the mining industry in Glamorganshire and Monmouthshire during 1930 or a similar convenient period, and the corresponding amount paid by the industry for local rates over the same period?

Mr. SHINWELL

The estimated total amount payable by colliery owners in South Wales and Monmouth as royalties and wayleaves, including the rental value of freehold minerals where worked by the proprietors, during the year ended 31st October, 1930, was £1,463,600, and as local rates £258,700. Figures for Glamorganshire and Monmouthshire only are not available.
