§ Mr. BROOKEasked the Minister of Labour whether she is aware that members of county councils in Scotland who are unemployed are not only refused allowance for time lost from work but they are refused unemployment benefit on the ground that, by attending county council meetings, they are not available for work; and whether she can take any steps to make unemployment benefit available for such members?
§ Miss BONDFIELDI understand that in two cases claims to benefit made by members of a county council have been disallowed by a court of referees. The insurance officer is submitting an appeal to the umpire, in order to obtain an authoritative ruling on the point.
