Viscountess ASTOR

asked the President of the Board of Trade how much barley was imported into Britain in 1929 and 1930, respectively; and how much of this is of the quality generally known as malting barley?

Mr. W. R. SMITH

The total quantity of barley imported into Great Britain and Northern Ireland during the years 1929 and 1930 was 11,986,000 cwts. and 15,268,000 cwts., respectively. I am unable to state how much of this barley would be utilised for malting purposes.
