HC Deb 05 February 1931 vol 247 c2138W
Mr. KIRKWOOD

asked the Lord Advocate whether his attention has been called to cases in which persons charged with offences have been detained in custody through inability to pay the sum required as bail; and whether he will take steps to graduate the amount of bail according to the means of the person charged?

The LORD ADVOCATE

The answer to the first part of my hon. Friend's question is in the negative. With regard to the second part of the question, I would remind the hon. Member that the amount of bail is a matter to be determined by the court, and the practice is to take into account the means of the person charged.
