HC Deb 04 February 1931 vol 247 c1825W
Mr. W. J. BROWN

asked the Postmaster-General whether, in view of the extraordinary amount, of sick leave for eye strain granted to clerical officers in the ledger sections of the Savings Bank Department during 1929 and 1930, he intends to instal individual lighting in addition to flood lighting in the above sections?

Mr. LEES-SMITH

No, Sir. The improvements in the lighting at the Savings Bank Department, to which I referred in my reply to the hon. Member's question on 15th December last, have now been completed. The introduction of individual lighting would result in conditions more conducive to eye strain than the present system of general lighting, and would be a retrograde step.
