HC Deb 04 February 1931 vol 247 cc1835-6W
Major POLE

asked the President of the Board of Education the reason for the delay in the construction of the new central schools and of the high school in the Swadlincote area?

Sir C. TREVELYAN

The programme of the Derbyshire local education authority for the three years 1930–33 con- tains proposals for two new senior schools and a new secondary school in the Swadlincote area. Sites have already been acquired for one of the senior schools and for the secondary school. In deciding the dates within the three-year period at which individual proposals are to be carried out, the authority have to consider inter alia the relative urgency of the various building projects contained in their programme as a whole. I am fully alive to the importance of these particular proposals, but I have no ground for believing that there has, as yet, been any unreasonable delay in carrying them out.
