asked the hon. Member for Carlisle, as representing the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, in what year for the first time the Commissioners secured, as a charitable institution, a refund of Income Tax from the Treasury?

Mr. DENMAN

The first repayment of Income Tax was received by the Commissioners from the Inland Revenue in the year 1927, being a payment on account of a claim going back to the year beginning 6th April, 1916.
