HC Deb 03 December 1931 vol 260 c1268W
Mr. LEWIS

asked the Home Secretary if he will cause inquiry to be made into the law relating to penalties for criminals who, at the time of their arrest, are found to be carrying firearms, with a view to considering whether such penalties should be increased?

Sir H. SAMUEL

There is already a maximum penalty of 20 years' penal servitude for the possession of a firearm or ammunition with intent to endanger life or cause serious injury to property. It is for the judge to apply in each case such penalty as he may think suitable in the circumstances.
