HC Deb 03 December 1931 vol 260 cc1279-80W
Mr. PRICE

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is prepared to carry out the scheme of the last Government which was intended to give to unemployed allotment and garden holders fertilisers and seed free, with a view to encouraging agricultural products?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave on Monday last to a question on this subject by the hon. Member for the Don Valley (Mr. T. Williams).

Mr. COCKS

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in view of the importance of increasing the supply of home-grown foodstuffs, be will consider the restoration of the War-time facilities whereby urban dwellers in particular were able to obtain allotments in the parks, commons, by the side of railway tracks, and other places?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I do not think the circumstances at the present time are such as to justify recourse to emergency measures of the kind suggested.
