asked the Secretary for Mines what numbers of district schemes have been approved by him under Section 1 of the Coal Mines Act, 1930, and for what districts?

Mr. SHINWELL

Sixteen district schemes have been approved under Part I of the Coal Mines Act, 1930. These schemes cover all districts except Scotland, for which a scheme has been made by my Department. Following is a list of the districts:

  1. 1. Cannock Chase.
  2. 2. Bristol.
  3. 3. Cumberland.
  4. 4. Durham.
    5. 1132
  5. 5. Forest of Dean.
  6. 6. Kent.
  7. 7. Lancashire and Cheshire.
  8. 8. Midland (Amalgamated), which includes Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire (North and South).
  9. 9. North Staffordshire.
  10. 10. Northumberland.
  11. 11. North Wales.
  12. 12. Shropshire.
  13. 13. Somerset.
  14. 14. South Staffordshire (exclusive of Cannock Chase) and Worcestershire.
  15. 15. South Wales (including Monmouthshire).
  16. 16. Warwickshire.
  17. 17. Scotland.
