§ Mr. TINKERasked the Secretary for Mines if be has carried out tests with the fire-damp detector lamps other than the oil safety lamp; and, if so, will he say if, as a result of such tests, he proposes to recommend the use of such detector lamps in the mines?
§ Mr. SHINWELLSystematic pit tests of the detector lamp referred to in my answer to my hon. Friend on 22nd July last, were arranged, but in the meantime laboratory tests gave unsatisfactory results. The proposed systematic pit tests are consequently in abeyance. In the meantime the present condition and working efficiency of a number of detectors of this type which have been purchased by individual collieries at various times during the last two years are being investigated.
