§ Sir C. TREVELYANAs regards the years 1931–33, I have nothing to add to the figures which I gave in my speech on the Second Reading of the Education Bill which was introduced last Session. These figures related to teachers of all types, including teachers of practical subjects, and were based on the estimates submitted by local education authorities in their programmes. Similar estimates in respect of subsequent years have not yet been submitted, and I am not, therefore, in a position to make any detailed calculations in respect of the years 1934-38. As more information becomes available there will be time to consider whether any special steps are necessary to secure an adequate supply of teachers of any particular types that may be required during these years.
