In the week ending 1st November, 35,000 children received milk free and 48,000 for payment, under arrangements made by the local education authorities for the provision of meals. It is now estimated that 500,000 children, or about 9 per cent, of the elementary school population of England and Wales, are receiving a daily supply of milk under schemes organised by the National Milk Publicity Council. The corresponding estimate six months ago was 400,000.
